John Laird (1834-1898), engineer and ship builder of Laird Brothers.
1834 Born the son of John Laird
Educated at Winnick and Cheltenham College.
Apprenticed to Mr. Moon, a Brazilian Merchant, for 5 years.
During the Crimean War, went to Toulon, South of France and learnt Naval matters.
1860 Returned to England.
1860 On 1st January brothers William Laird (1831-1899) and John Laird (1834-1898) were admitted as member of the firms, and the title was changed to John Laird, Sons and Co.
1861 Became partner in John Laird, Sons and Co on the retirement of his father and death of his uncle. With his brother as partner, the company name was changed to Laird Brothers
1898 Died aged 63 on January 25th.
