WE have learned with regret of the death, on August 30, of Mr. Frederick Herbert Parker, engineering manager of Fairey Aviation, Ltd.
Mr. Parker, who was forty-five, was born in Bristol and joined the Bristol Aeroplane Company, Ltd., as an apprentice in 1928. On completing his apprenticeship he went into the drawing-office, later transferring to the production organisation.
In 1941 he became chief planning and production engineer and in 1947 he was appointed to be deputy chief development engineer. In those appointments, Mr. Parker took a large part in the production of numerous Bristol aircraft, including the "Beaufighter," "Brigand" and "Freighter," and in the development of the "Britannia" and early Bristol helicopters.
Mr. Parker left the Bristol Aeroplane Company, Ltd., in 1951 to join Fairey Aviation, Ltd., at Hayes, Middlesex, as assistant chief engineer. Six month later he was appointed engineering manager, in which position he was responsible for the engineering of many aircraft, including the "Gannet" prototypes, the "Gannet" AEW.Mk.3, "Delta 2" and the "Rotodyne."
