The SS Great Eastern was auctioned on the 28th October 1885 by Mr. Charles Walford Kellock at half past 2 in the afternoon.
Described as "The Celebrated and Magnificent Iron Paddle Screw Steamship".
It says that "Her paddle engines, which are 1000 horse-power nominal are by Scott Russell and Co, and have recently been re-packed."
Also that, "Her screw engines, which are 1,600 h.p nominal are by James Watt and Co of Birmingham. These engines and boilers have recently been thoroughly repaired and cleaned".
"Now lying at Milford Haven where She can be inspected".
On the front page of the brochure you can just see the hand writing, presumably of an attendee, with the aution bids as they were being placed. Her final sale price was 26,200.
The subsequent pages in the brochure list the entire inventory of the ship at the time, detailing the contents of every room.
