HARRY FRANK STANLEY was closely associated with the early stages of refrigeration engineering and the development of the absorption type of machine, in connexion with which he took out several patents for improvements. Later he turned his attention to the ammonia compression type of machine and was responsible for the designs and completion of the 300-ton per day ice-making plant for the Grimsby Ice Company, at the time of its erection the largest installation in Europe.
Mr. Stanley was for over twenty years manager and a director of Messrs. H. Pontifex and Sons, and he had previously been for many years representative of Messrs. Pontifex and Wood.
He was the patentee of the "Perfection" chilling and carbonating plant for the production of non-deposit beers.
He died on 11th February 1929, at the age of 75. He had been a Member of the Institution since 1888.
