Mr John Bagwell was the geenral manager to The Great Northern Railway of Ireland between October 1911 and June 30th 1926.
He was an independent member of Seanad Éireann in the Irish Free State in 1922, and held that office until 1936.[1]
Mr. Bagwell went through some painful experiences during the Irish Civil War: he was kidnapped once and held hostage by Republicans in the Dublin Mountains.[2] on another occasion, his house was burnt down and many valuable papers, collected by his father relating to the history of Ireland, destroyed.[3]
