Ralph Sydney Royle was born in 1882 and received his technical education at Bootle Technical School and Liverpool University.
After serving six years' apprenticeship with a general engineering firm in Liverpool, he became partner in a motor business, subsequently occupying positions with various well-known engineering firms in the district, including four years as charge hand in the Diesel Engine Department of Cammell, Laird and Co.
In 1919 he was appointed Motor Engineer of the Liverpool Branch of the Anglo-American Oil Co, a position which he occupied until his death, which took place on 27th February, 1928, after a short illness.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1921.
