CHARLES LLOYD was born in 1865 at Westbury, Gloucester, and served his apprenticeship from 1882 to 1886 with Messrs. Earle's Shipbuilding and Engineering Company of Hull, with whom he remained until 1896 as draughtsman and later as chief draughtsman.
After a short period with Messrs. Samuel White and Company of Cowes he joined Messrs. Browett, Lindley and Company of Patricroft as chief draughtsman and in 1900 was appointed works manager.
In 1906 he commenced business under the title of the Vulcan Engineering Company at Barnes and in 1908 he became engineer to the Harris Pneumatic Suspension Syndicate of New Bond Street and Paris.
