C. and N. Electrical Industries, electronics and electrical manufacturer, of Gosport
1950s As a result of winning defence contracts, Camper and Nicholsons established a subsidiary C. and N. Electrical Ltd, under the Gosport shipyard’s foreman electrician, Roy Taylor, to fill a gap in the supply of control boxes for minesweepers.
By the early 1970’s, still managed by Taylor, the company had grown to employ 1,250 people in five factories and had, in its turn, spun off further developments such as Dialled Despatches which manufactured pneumatic tube systems[1].
1972 C and N Electrical Engineers acquired Hartley Electromotives
1972 Camper and Nicholsons was merged with Crest Securities to form Crest Nicholson. C. and N. Electrical Industries had factories at Gosport, Newbury and Shrewsbury.
C. and N. Electrical Industries was sold as it did not fit with the new strategic direction of the company.
1973 Cray Electronics carried out reverse take-over of C. and N. Electrical Industries[2].
