The Royal Mail Twin-Screw Motor Liner Alcantara, Harland and Wolff, Belfast, Builders and Engineers. Sister ship RMS Asturias
1926 September 23rd. Took to the water and completed her fitting out towards the end of the year.
1927 February 18th formally handed over to her owner, Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. On the preceding dday successful speed trials and a twenty-four hour full-speed endurance trial were carried out, and the machinery operated in a very satisfactory manner, all main and auxilliary units performing a non-stop run. February 19th the Alcantara left Belfast Lough for Southampton.
