Reginald Thomas Blackburn was born in 1891 and obtained his technical education at the Ordnance College (now Military College of Science).
In 1912 he entered the Royal Field Artillery as Battery Artificer, being transferred a year later to the Royal Army Service Corps, Mechanical Transport.
In 1921 he became an M.T. Instructor at Aldershot, and was transferred in 1925 to Malta.
In 1928 he went to India, and four years later became Technical Warrant Officer of 27 M.T. Coy., R.I.A.S.C. In 1955 he was appointed Technical Instructor at the R.I.A.S.C.
