John Lowe (1882-1944)

John Lowe was born in 1882 and apprenticed to locomotive engineering with the Great Western Railway Company.
He then entered the University of Manchester and obtained a B.Sc. Degree.
In 1906 he became Engineering Lecturer at Cork Technical Institute, transferring eight years later to the Elswick Institute, Newcastle-on-Tyne, in a similar capacity.
During the first World War he served with the Aeronautical Inspection Directorate as Materials Inspector.
In 1919 he received an appointment at Crewe Technical College as Lecturer in engineering subjects, and remained at the College for more than twenty years.
He died on 5th September, 1944, at the age of 62.
He was elected an Associate Member in 2918.
