Harold Francis Greenland was educated at Finsbury Technical College, and served his apprenticeship with the firms of James Simpson and Co., Grosvenor Road, and Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., Luton.
For five years following his apprenticeship he was Engineer-in-Charge at the Glass Factory of Moore and Nettlefold, Ltd., and after a further two years spent in public-service vehicle maintenance, he was appointed Manager of the Repair Workshops of Commercial Cars, Ltd., Luton, subsequently occupying the position of Travelling Inspecting Engineer.
At the outbreak of the War he was appointed Officer in charge of lorry spare parts at Bulford Camp, and was transferred to the Home H.M. Depot in a similar capacity.
