Ralph Eric Herbert Allen was born in 1892, and was educated at Dean Close School, Cheltenham.
He received his practical training with Reade and Co., of Eastbourne, and in 1914 joined the R.N. Armoured Car Service, being transferred subsequently to the Royal Air Force, in which he remained until 1928, for the last three years as Technical Adviser on Mechanical Transport.
He then became Managing Director of Karrier Motors (Eastern), Ltd., at Bombay, and in 1931 was appointed Assistant Mechanical Engineer at Scotland Yard, a post which he held until his death, which took place on 11th February, 1934, as the result of a street accident.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1923.
