Stanley Orton Needham was born in 1891, and received his practical training in the works of Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby.
He then joined Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., as Draughtsman, and in 1913 was appointed in charge of design and manufacture of printing machinery for Vandyck Printers, Ltd., Bristol.
After short periods as Designer with various firms, he was appointed Works Director of the Argson Engineering Co., Ltd., of Twickenham, with whom he remained for 7 years.
In 1926 he founded the Stanley Engineering Co., Ltd., Egham, for the manufacture of small petrol sets, and he occupied the post of Works Manager to this firm until his death, which took place on 11th September, 1933, at the age of 42.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1920.
