By his substitution of Banister for the stone formerly used, he added greatly to the success of the concern. The firm was converted into a company in 1890, and up to the time of his death he held the position of chairman and managing director. JOHN GRAYSON LOWOOD died on August 1, 1902, at his residence, The Hall, Swinton, Rotherham, after a short illness, at the age of sixty-seven years.
Mr. Lowood entered the business of the firm. of J. Grayson Lowood & Co., upon the death of an uncle, in 1868. By his substitution of Banister for the stone formerly used, he added greatly to the success of the concern. The firm was converted into a company in 1890, and up to the time of his death he held the position of chairman and managing director. He was a well-known public man in Sheffield, and had been a member of its Corporation.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1875.
