WILLIAM EDWIN BROOKS was connected with [[Vickers|Messrs. Vickers, Ltd]]. (later Vickers-Armstrong, Ltd.) during the whole of his career. He was born at South Mimms, Herts, in 1892, and received his technical education at the Polytechnic, Regent Street, London. In 1909 he commenced his apprenticeship with Messrs. Vickers, and served for three years, after which he became a draughtsman in the Westminster office of the firm. | |||
During the War he was promoted to be senior draughtsman-designer; he was responsible for the design of various types of ordnance and ammunition and prepared plans for works for their manufacture. After the War he was employed in the gun drawing office at Westminster until 1932, when he was transferred to the Elswick works of Messrs. WILLIAM EDWIN BROOKS was connected with Messrs. Vickers, Ltd. (later Vickers-Armstrong, Ltd.) during the whole of his career. He was born at South Mimms, Herts, in 1892, and received his technical education at the Polytechnic, Regent Street, London. In 1909 he commenced his apprenticeship with Messrs. Vickers, and served for three years, after which he became a draughtsman in the Westminster office of the firm.
