"JOHN EDWARDS was associated with the firm of Messrs. Hughes and Lancaster, Ltd., Westminster, engineers and contractors specializing in sewerage and waterworks, throughout his career, including his apprenticeship, which he served from 1894 to 1897. After spending some time in the firm's engineering works in Denbighshire and in the drawing office, he visited Germany where he gained additional experience in sewerage and waterworks engineering. In the course of his career he travelled widely, his duties first taking him to Oporto, where he was assistant engineer from 1904 to 1908. He was then in charge of the construction of sewerage and waterworks at Concepcion in Chile and later was engaged on similar schemes in Uruguay. In 1922 he was appointed the firm's engineer and in 1930 was elected to the board of directors. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Institution for half a century, having been elected a Graduate in 1900 and transferred to Associate Membership in 1906. His death occurred on 22nd August 1950 at the age of seventy."
