"EDWARD WILLIAM GREEN, O.B.E., was associated with [[R. and H. Green|Messrs. R. and H. Green, Ltd]]., Blackwall, shipbuilders, for half a century, and for nearly as long had been a director of the firm. He was educated at Harrow and in Switzerland, and served his apprenticeship with [[John Brown and Co|Messrs. John Brown and Company, Ltd]]., from 1892 to 1898. After some experience at sea in ships of the [[Orient Line]] he began his long connection with [[R. and H. Green|Messrs. R. and H. Green]] in 1899, and soon afterwards became a director, remaining in office until shortly before his death, which occurred on 31st January 1950, at the age of seventy-seven. He received the award of the O.B.E. for his services in fitting out ships for the Admiralty during the 1914-18 war and for his work in connexion with minelaying. Mr. Green formed a notable collection of pictures of the ships built at the Blackwall Yard, which he bequeathed to the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich. "EDWARD WILLIAM GREEN, O.B.E., was associated with Messrs. R. and H. Green, Ltd., Blackwall, shipbuilders, for half a century, and for nearly as long had been a director of the firm. He was educated at Harrow and in Switzerland, and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. John Brown and Company, Ltd., from 1892 to 1898.
