"ERNEST KNIBB ROBERTSON began in 1912 to serve an apprenticeship with the [[Campbell Gas Engine Co|Campbell Gas Engine Co, Ltd]]., of Halifax, and to study at the Municipal Technical College in that city. These activities, however, were interrupted by the 1914-18 war, throughout which he served in H.M. Forces. On demobilization he resumed his practical training with the [[Campbell Gas Engine Co]] and continued his education at the Halifax Technical College, on the completion of which he was employed as an erector by the above firm and subsequently carried out the same duties in Egypt and India. In 1925 he was appointed assistant sales manager in the London office, but three years later he transferred his services to [[W. H. Allen, Sons and Co|Messrs. W. H. Allen, Sons and Company, Ltd]]., Bedford, for whom he was engaged on the sales staff of the London office for the next seven years. He was then made engineer representative for that firm in the Philippines, with responsibility for the sale, erection, and operation of Diesel alternator sets. In 1938 his duties were extended to cover the Far East generally, on which he was engaged when he was interned in a prisoner of war camp at Hong Kong. The privations he suffered there resulted in his untimely death in a London hospital on 29th October 1949, at the age of fifty-three.
