"ARCHIBALD HENRY WEIR, who was born in 1881, received his practical training at the Turnbridge Ironworks of [[John Sykes and Co|Messrs. John Sykes and Company, Ltd]]., Huddersfield, from 1894 to 1901. After serving as fitter to [[P. and W. McOnie|Messrs. A. and P. W. McOnie]], makers of sugar machinery, Glasgow, he joined [[Thomas Broadbent and Sons|Messrs. Thomas Broadbent and Sons, Ltd]]., Central Ironworks, Huddersfield, in 1904, and during a twenty years' association with that firm rose by successive stages to the position of general manager and finally joined the board of directors. Since 1924 he had been managing director of [[Cherry and Weir|Messrs. Cherry and Weir, Ltd]]., makers of laundry and other machinery, Leicester. Mr. Weir, whose death occurred on 27th October 1949, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1918." | |||

"ARCHIBALD HENRY WEIR, who was born in 1881, received his practical training at the Turnbridge Ironworks of Messrs. John Sykes and Company, Ltd., Huddersfield, from 1894 to 1901. After serving as fitter to Messrs. A. and P. W. McOnie, makers of sugar machinery, Glasgow, he joined Messrs.
