"GEORGE WILLIAM MARTIN, who was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1910 and transferred to Membership in 1922, was a heating and ventilating engineer for most of his career. He received his general and technical education in Manchester, where he served his apprenticeship with Messrs. C. S. Madan and Company, Ltd., from 1887 to 1893, remaining with that firm, first as junior and subsequently as chief draughtsman, until 1902.
After occupying various positions for brief periods, in 1903 he was appointed assistant manager and engineer to the Atmospheric Steam Heating Company, Ltd., London, and remained with that company for seventeen years; in addition he was engaged as a teacher at the West Norwood Technical Institute.
