"ARTHUR LINCOLNE HITCHCOCK-SPENCER was associated with [[W. H. Spencer and Co|Messrs. W. H. Spencer and Company]], Hitchin, boilermakers, and the successor firms [[Spencer-Hopwood|Messrs. Spencer—Hopwood, Ltd]]., and [[Spencer-Bonecourt|Spencer-Bonecourt, Ltd]]., for nearly fifty years.


After serving his apprenticeship from 1887 to 1892 his first position was that of chief designer and draughtsman. He then became sole manager, joint partner, and finally managing director. Mr. Spencer, who was the inventor of the "Spencer-Hopwood Patent Boiler", was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1901 and transferred to Membership in 1927. His death occurred in February 1950 at the age of seventy-nine."

"ARTHUR LINCOLNE HITCHCOCK-SPENCER was associated with Messrs. W. H. Spencer and Company, Hitchin, boilermakers, and the successor firms Messrs. Spencer—Hopwood, Ltd., and Spencer-Bonecourt, Ltd., for nearly fifty years.

After serving his apprenticeship from 1887 to 1892 his first position was that of chief designer and draughtsman. He then became sole manager, joint partner, and finally managing director.
