"MARRIOTT CLAUDE RITCHIE was born in 1872, third son of the late Dr. Thomas Ritchie of Otley, Yorkshire, and received his education at the Battersea Polytechnic Institute.
He served his apprenticeship with the Bremner Machine Co, Otley, Yorkshire, from 1888 to 1894, in whose employment he continued as junior draughtsman for a further six years.
