He then studied at the [[University of Liverpool]], where he graduated B.Eng. with honours in 1922 and later obtained his Ph.D. and M.Eng. After being engaged for three years on post-graduate research work on internal-combustion engines under Professor Watkinson of Liverpool University, he received, in 1925, an appointment as junior scientific assistant in the aerodynamics department of the National Physical Laboratory at Teddington, where at the date of his death he was a principal scientific officer. During his long service at the Laboratory, he made notable contributions to the science of aerodynamics." | |||

"RICHARD WARDEN, Ph.D., M.Eng., whose death occurred on 3rd August 1950, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1922 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1930.
He was born in 1896 and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Lever Brothers of Port Sunlight from 1915 to 1919 and for a brief period was a cadet pilot in the R.A.F.
