"ALBERT HUMPHRIES, C.B., C.B.E., was associated with the Royal Woolwich Arsenal throughout his professional career, including his apprenticeship, which he served from 1888 to 1895. His technical education was obtained at the Woolwich Polytechnic and the City of London College. On the conclusion of his practical training he became draughtsman, assistant to the manager of the Royal Laboratory, and later shop manager, in which position he was employed for six years. | |||
He was then made assistant manager in the West Laboratory and from 1914 to 1920 held the appointment of manager with responsibility for the general engineering workshops. His final position, which dated from 1920, was that of chief mechanical engineer of the Royal Ammunition Factories. Mr. Humphries, who retired in 1935, served on the Ordnance Commission, was vice-chairman of the Governors of Woolwich Polytechnic, and chairman of the Apprentices' Board in the Arsenal; his death occurred on 9th February 1951 in his seventy-ninth year. "ALBERT HUMPHRIES, C.B., C.B.E., was associated with the Royal Woolwich Arsenal throughout his professional career, including his apprenticeship, which he served from 1888 to 1895. His technical education was obtained at the Woolwich Polytechnic and the City of London College.
