Subsequently he went to Australia where he was in business as a machinery merchant and importer of textile machinery. His death occurred at Melbourne on 19th January 1951 at the age of seventy-eight. "JOSEPH WOOD, who was born in 1872, obtained his practical training with Messrs. E. Merralls, Ltd., Keighley, from 1887 to 1895, and during this period attended classes at the Technical School in that town.
After which he began his professional career with the post of assistant engineer to Messrs. Bottomley Brothers, Bradford, textile machinists, being promoted to chief engineer three years later. In 1907 he joined the staff of Sir Titus Salt, Bt., Sons and Company, Ltd., and for the next seven years carried out the duties of superintendent engineer.
