He was born in 1871, and received his general and technical education in France at the Lycee d'Amiens, where he graduated in mechanical and civil engineering. Saxby and Farmer]] in London he was appointed assistant engineer in 1894, from which date he became responsible for all the important work carried out by the firm in India. In 1904 he was made manager, and subsequently held the appointment of managing director. More recently he had acted as advisory director until his retirement in 1936. Mr. Wheatley had numerous inventions to his credit in connection with interlocking and electrical appliances for the safe working of railways. "WILLIAM GEORGE WHEATLEY was associated with the firm of Messrs. Saxby and Farmer, Ltd., and its successor, the Westinghouse Brake and Signal Company, for the whole of his professional life.
He was born in 1871, and received his general and technical education in France at the Lycee d'Amiens, where he graduated in mechanical and civil engineering. After serving a six years' apprenticeship with Messrs.
