GEORGE BELLAMY CLIFTON was identified with the [[Great Western Railway]] Company for the whole of his professional career. He served his apprenticeship from 1883 to 1886 in the chief mechanical engineer's department at Swindon, at the conclusion of which he was engaged on the drawing office staff for one year. GEORGE BELLAMY CLIFTON was identified with the Great Western Railway Company for the whole of his professional career. He served his apprenticeship from 1883 to 1886 in the chief mechanical engineer's department at Swindon, at the conclusion of which he was engaged on the drawing office staff for one year. In 1887 he was transferred to the company's electric light department in London, and held the post of assistant until 1890, when he became manager of the electric light station at Paddington.
He was a technical assistant in the same department from 1896 until 1905, in which year he was appointed assistant to the electrical engineer, a position he filled until his retirement from the company's service on superannuation in 1920.
