In January of the same year he also joined the board of directors of Robinson and Son, whilst still continuing to act as works manager, and in 1935 he became joint managing director. Mr. Tweedale travelled extensively in the interests of his firm on the Continent, in the United States, and in Canada, and, in 1937, visited Australia and New Zealand. He had been a Member of the Institution since 1909. "JAMES TWEEDALE, M.B.E., was associated with the firm of Messrs. Thomas Robinson and Son, Ltd., Railway Works, Rochdale, makers of woodworking and flour milling machinery, for fifty-five years.
During that long period he was first appointed a junior assistant in the works store department in 1884, and contract and rate fixer in 1897, a position he held until 1901 when he was made assistant works manager, and, a year later, works manager.
