"CHARLES ROBERT YATES was for over forty years resident inspecting engineer at Newport, Monmouthshire, for Messrs. Rendel, Palmer and Tritton, Westminster, consulting engineers. He was educated at a private school in Wednesbury, where he also attended classes at the Technical School. His apprenticeship was served from 1884 to 1889 with the Patent Shaft and Axletree Company of Wednesbury, in whose employment he continued for a further fifteen years, being first engaged as assistant engineer and superintendent of testing.
