"Major BRYAN FERGUSON, R.E., retained a close connection with the Manchester area during most of his lifetime. He was educated at the Technical College, Salford, and the Manchester College of Technology, where he obtained an Associateship. His apprenticeship was served from 1919 to 1924 with [[Mather and Platt|Messrs. Mather and Platt, Ltd]]., for whom he was engaged in the testing department for another year.


After acting as engineering assistant in the electricity department of the Salford Corporation, he received an appointment in 1928 in the same department of the Corporation of Manchester as technical assistant, and subsequently was employed in the lighting section as assistant engineer. In 1941 he was granted a commission in the Royal Engineers and served as a staff captain at the War Office under the director of transportation for a short time. Later he was with the staff of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces and was with the forward division during the invasion of western Europe. On demobilization he rejoined the highways engineering division of the [[Ministry of Transport]]. Major Ferguson, whose untimely death occurred on 17th November 1947, at the age of forty-four, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1943. He was also an Associate Member of the [[Institution of Electrical Engineers]]."

"Major BRYAN FERGUSON, R.E., retained a close connection with the Manchester area during most of his lifetime. He was educated at the Technical College, Salford, and the Manchester College of Technology, where he obtained an Associateship. His apprenticeship was served from 1919 to 1924 with Messrs.
