ADOLPHUS HENRY THOMAS was born in 1864, and after serving his apprenticeship from 1879 to 1885 with the [[Jarrow Chemical Co|Jarrow Chemical Company]], remained with that firm as engineer in charge of the works until 1891, when he was appointed superintending erector to the [[United Alkali Co|United Alkali Company]] at Fleetwood., Lancs. He was subsequently placed in control of the manufacturing department. The remainder of his career was spent in the service of [[Prices Patent Candle Co|Price's Patent Candle Company]], Battersea, which he joined in 1899 as assistant engineer.


His promotion to the post of chief engineer took place in 1908, in which position he was responsible for the design, erection and manufacture of special machinery, as well as for the maintenance of the firm's factories both at home and abroad. For some years prior to his death, which occurred at Ewell, on 12th January 1943, Mr.Thomas had been living in retirement.


He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1908, and was transferred to Membership in 1922.

ADOLPHUS HENRY THOMAS was born in 1864, and after serving his apprenticeship from 1879 to 1885 with the Jarrow Chemical Company, remained with that firm as engineer in charge of the works until 1891, when he was appointed superintending erector to the United Alkali Company at Fleetwood., Lancs.
