DAVID KIRK GLASS, whose death occurred on 24th March 1942, was elected a Member of the Institution in 1939. DAVID KIRK GLASS, whose death occurred on 24th March 1942, was elected a Member of the Institution in 1939. He was born in 1891 and after receiving his technical education at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, served his apprenticeship with the Carron Company, Falkirk, from 1908 to 1913.
After a brief period of experience in the drawing office of the Frodingham Iron and Steel Co he enlisted in 1915 and for the following three years was on active service in the R.A.O.C. as armament artificer and was awarded the D.C.M. He returned to the Carron Company in 1919 as chief draughtsman in the engineering department and from 1920 to 1927 he was employed by Messrs. James Dunlop and Company at their Clyde Iron Works in a similar capacity, being responsible for the design and construction of mining and blast furnace plant.
