Major HENRY JOHN CARWARDINE HILL, I .A .0 .C., who died on active service in Malaya on 26th July 1943, was born in 1910 and received his technical education at Swindon Technical College. From 1926 to 1931 he served his apprenticeship in the Swindon locomotive shops of the [[Great Western Railway]] and continued for a brief period in the service of the company as a draughtsman and assistant in the testing house. He then entered the works of the [[London, Midland and Scottish Railway]] at Crewe, and was first employed in the drawing office of the chief mechanical engineer and subsequently in that of the carriage and wagon department. | |||
In 1939 he was granted a commission in the Indian Army Ordnance Corps, and after attending a course of instruction at the Military College of Science, Lydd, Kent, proceeded to India where he was later promoted to the rank of captain. Major HENRY JOHN CARWARDINE HILL, I .A .0 .C., who died on active service in Malaya on 26th July 1943, was born in 1910 and received his technical education at Swindon Technical College. From 1926 to 1931 he served his apprenticeship in the Swindon locomotive shops of the Great Western Railway and continued for a brief period in the service of the company as a draughtsman and assistant in the testing house.
