"FREDERICK SCOTT GREENSHIELDS, Wh.Ex., spent nearly the whole of his professional career in New Zealand.
He was born in 1868 and began his technical education at the Gartsherrie Science School and the West of Scotland Mining College, winning an engineering scholarship tenable at the Royal College of Science, where he gained a Whitworth Exhibition. His apprenticeship was served with Messrs. John Gray and Company, engineers, of Uddingstone, from 1884 to 1888, and subsequently he acted as assistant and draughtsman to Professor O. Reynolds at Owens College, Manchester.
He then gained two years' experience as designer of printing machinery and general plant for Mr. Alexander Gray, consulting engineer, London, before proceeding to New Zealand, where he went into business on his own account in 1894 and established the firm of F.
