He was born at Salford in 1878, and received his education at The Royal Technical Institute, where he was awarded the Bronze Medal for geometry and mechanical engineering in 1898. After serving his time as an indentured apprentice to [[Hulse and Co|Messrs. Hulse and Company, Ltd]]., Ordsal Works, Salford, from 1893 to 1899, he remained in the employment of that firm as a draughtsman for another year. He then joined Messrs. Craven Brothers, at Manchester, and was engaged in a similar capacity on the design of machine tools, but in the following year he was transferred as leading draughtsman to the crane division. In 1908 he was promoted to be chief draughtsman, and subsequently was made chief engineer. "ALBERT EDWARD HORROCKS was associated with the firm of Messrs.
