"PERCY SIDDONS HOYTE, whose death occurred on 28th September 1947, was for twenty-eight years chief engineer and manager of the Plymouth Gas Co.
He was born in 1873, and after receiving his general education at the Nottingham High School became, in 1891, a pupil under the late Mr. W. R. Chester, engineer and manager of the Nottingham Corporation Gas Department. On the completion of three years' training he remained as the latter's assistant for another year. His long connection with the Plymouth Gas Co dated from 1895 when he was appointed assistant engineer. His promotion to the post of chief engineer followed five years later.
