Louis GRAVEN, who was elected a Member of the Institution in 1898, will be remembered for his services in connection with the River Plate Branch, in the formation and development of which he played an active part. He was Chairman of the Branch and a Member of Council in 1928.
He was born in Dublin in 1861, and at the age of twenty-three went to Argentina, where he spent almost the entire remainder of his long career. After five years' service with the Buenos Ayres Great Southern Railway as foreman millwright and later with the additional charge of hydraulic machinery, he transferred to the Buenos Ayres Western Railway and was engaged in the traction department for eight years.
In 1900 he joined the Interoceanic Railway of Mexico and three years later entered the service of the Tehuantepec Railroad. He received the appointment of locomotive superintendent of the Buenos Ayres Great Southern Railway in 1906 and held this position until his retirement in 1922.


Mr. Greaven, whose death occurred on 15th August 1944, was the author of a paper published in the PROCEEDINGS in 1906 entitled "Petroleum Fuel in Locomotives on the Tehuantepec National Railroad of Mexico".

Louis GRAVEN, who was elected a Member of the Institution in 1898, will be remembered for his services in connection with the River Plate Branch, in the formation and development of which he played an active part. He was Chairman of the Branch and a Member of Council in 1928.
