He was born in 1875 and after receiving his training in mechanical and gas engineering he joined the gas department of the Corporation of Glasgow, where from 1896 to 1904 he served as technical assistant. ALEXANDER MACKAY was associated with the gas industry throughout his professional career and for over twenty years held the important position of chief engineer of the City Gas Department of Stoke-on-Trent.
He was born in 1875 and after receiving his training in mechanical and gas engineering he joined the gas department of the Corporation of Glasgow, where from 1896 to 1904 he served as technical assistant. He was then appointed engineer and manager to the Montrose Gas Company, and after holding this position for five years, he entered upon his long association with the City of Stoke-on-Trent.
Latterly, Mr. MacKay had been living in retirement at Longton, Staffs, where his death occurred on 15th August 1944. He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1917.
