"FREDERICK JAMES SPARKS, whose death occurred on 23rd January 1946, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1930. He received his technical education at University College, Southampton, and served his apprenticeship from 1910 to 1914 in the locomotive works of the [[London and South Western Railway]]. He then joined H.M. Forces and, after serving overseas in the ranks with the infantry and mechanical transport, was granted a commission. On demobilization in 1919 he found temporary employment as a draughtsman with the [[London and South Western Railway]] and [[Leyland Motors|Messrs. Leyland Motors, Ltd]]. The remainder of his professional career was spent in the service of the [[Sudan Government Railways]], which he joined as a draughtsman in 1921. "FREDERICK JAMES SPARKS, whose death occurred on 23rd January 1946, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1930. He received his technical education at University College, Southampton, and served his apprenticeship from 1910 to 1914 in the locomotive works of the London and South Western Railway. He then joined H.M. Forces and, after serving overseas in the ranks with the infantry and mechanical transport, was granted a commission. On demobilization in 1919 he found temporary employment as a draughtsman with the London and South Western Railway and Messrs. Leyland Motors, Ltd.
