HERBERT DENNIS was associated with the firm of [William Asquith|Messrs. William Asquith, Ltd.]], machine tool makers of Halifax, from 1901, when he began to serve his apprenticeship, until his death, which occurred on 22nd April 1945, in his 59th year. On the completion of his practical training in 1906 (during which period he attended classes at the Halifax Technical College and was awarded the King's Prize), he successively became draughtsman, outside representative, works engineer, and works manager, for his firm.
In the latter capacity he was responsible for the organization of a shell factory, over which he was subsequently placed in control as general manager. He became the firm's assistant general manager in 1917, and was made general works and foundry manager five years later. In 1932 he joined the board of directors.
