1947 Obituary [1]
"ALFRED NUTTALL retained a close connection with engineering in the Bolton district throughout his career and had been associated with the firm of Messrs. Hick, Hargreaves and Company, Ltd., Soho Ironworks, Bolton, for forty years.
He was born in 1877, and received his education at the Bolton Technical School. On the termination of his five years' apprenticeship with Messrs. John Musgrave and Sons, Ltd., in 1897, he continued in the employment of that firm for a further two years as an engineer's draughtsman. After two years' experience as an agent in the cotton trade he returned to Messrs. John Musgrave to take up his former employment. He began his long connection with Messrs. Hick, Hargreaves and Company in 1906, and on the completion of thirteen years' service in the drawing office (during the last four years of which period he was in charge of the condensing department), he was appointed chief of the technical staff of the sales branch. Since 1923 he had acted as the firm's engineer's representative. Mr. Nuttall, whose death occurred on 4th September 1946, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1924."
