"ALEXANDER MOODY-STUART, who was born in 1870, received his general education at Moffatt Academy and at Edinburgh University. His technical training was obtained at Heriot-Watt College, Edinburgh, and at Andersonian College, Glasgow.
He began to serve a five years' apprenticeship with Messrs. D. Stewart and Company, Ltd., of Glasgow, in 1889, but shortly before its expiry he went to Demerara to take up a three years' engagement as assistant engineer on a sugar estate.
He returned to Messrs. Stewart and Company in 1897 and was employed as a draughtsman, but a year later he began a connection with Messrs. Pott, Cassels, and Williamson, Ltd., engineers, of Motherwell, which lasted for nineteen years.
