EDGAR ROUSE SUTCLIFFE, O.B.E., Wh.Ex., was the founder and for over forty years managing director of Messrs. Sutcliffe, Speakman and Company, Ltd., engineers, Leigh, Lancashire. He received his technical education at the Leeds Institute of Science and Art, obtaining a Whitworth Exhibition, and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Fairburn, Naylor, Macpherson and Company, of Leeds, from 1888 to 1893.
