He received his general and technical education at Dulwich College. After serving his apprenticeship from 1893 to 1896 with [[Davey, Paxman and Co|Messrs. Davey Paxman and Company]], engineers, of Colchester, he continued in the employment of that firm, filling successively the positions of draughtsman, clerk of the works, and representative at the Glasgow Exhibition, where he was responsible for the erection of a large steam engine and generator using highly superheated steam. For a brief period during 1902 and 1903 he was concerned with the erection and running of a 6,000 h.p. steam plant for the [[Mexican Gas and Electric Co]], of Mexico City. In 1904 he began his association with India, his first appointment being that of engineer to the Hastings Jute Mills, Bengal. Later he was appointed mill manager. Mr. Rose, whose death occurred on 27th July 1945, had been living in retirement for some years. He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1911 and was transferred to Membership in 1914. "PERCY THOMAS ROSE, who was born at Gravesend in 1875, spent the greater part of his professional career in India.
