"CHARLES HECTOR ALLAN, who was born in 1899, spent the whole of his career in South Africa. He received his technical education at the Technical High School, Durban, where he took courses in mechanical engineering, and served a six months' apprenticeship in the telegraphic instrument repair shop of the General Post Office at Pietermaritzburg. In 1916 he entered the drawing office of the [[Cambrian Iron and Steel Works]], Durban, and subsequently was made acting works manager. While holding this position he joined H.M. Forces and served for about a year in the Motor Transport Corps. After demobilization he returned for a brief period to his former position in the [[Cambrian Iron and Steel Works]], but in 1922 he joined the staff of the [[Shell Company of South Africa|Shell Company of South Africa, Ltd]]., as a draughtsman and was associated with that firm up to the time of his death, which occurred on 17th January 1946. | |||

"CHARLES HECTOR ALLAN, who was born in 1899, spent the whole of his career in South Africa.
