WILLIAM GEORGE LOUDON STUART FORBES, whose death occurred in 1945, at the age of eighty-eight, was chief engineer of H.M. Mint, Calcutta for several years and was one of the oldest Members of the Institution, his election dating back to 1882.


After serving a seven years' apprenticeship with [[James Watt and Co|Messrs. James Watt and Company]] of Soho, Birmingham, he proceeded to India, where the whole of his professional career was spent. On the completion of various temporary appointments, he finally began his long association with the Calcutta Mint, in 1890, by his appointment as superintendent of the annealing and stamping departments. In the following year he became superintendent of the workshop, and in later years contributed towards numerous inventions and improvements in all departments.

WILLIAM GEORGE LOUDON STUART FORBES, whose death occurred in 1945, at the age of eighty-eight, was chief engineer of H.M. Mint, Calcutta for several years and was one of the oldest Members of the Institution, his election dating back to 1882.

After serving a seven years' apprenticeship with Messrs. James Watt and Company of Soho, Birmingham, he proceeded to India, where the whole of his professional career was spent. On the completion of various temporary appointments, he finally began his long association with the Calcutta Mint, in 1890, by his appointment as superintendent of the annealing and stamping departments.
