GEORGE HERBERT HUMM spent most of his professional career in the United States, where for twenty-seven years he held the position of plant engineer to one of the [[Singer Manufacturing Co|Singer Manufacturing Company]]'s factories at Bridgeport, Connecticut.


He was born in 1885, and served a five years' apprenticeship with [[A. Smith and Co|Messrs. A. Smith and Company]], of London. After a year's experience as foreman to an engineering firm he was engaged as engineer to a syndicate interested in the development of certain patents. From 1908 to 1913 he was employed in the drawing offices of various firms in the Midlands, including the [[Brush Electrical Engineering Co|Brush Electrical Engineering Company, Ltd]].
He then went to Canada and found employment with the [[Canadian Explosives Co|Canadian Explosives Company]], Ltd., for two years. In 1918 he began his long association with the Singer Manufacturing Company, which continued until his death on 25th December 1945. Mr. Humm was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1907 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1913.

GEORGE HERBERT HUMM spent most of his professional career in the United States, where for twenty-seven years he held the position of plant engineer to one of the Singer Manufacturing Company's factories at Bridgeport, Connecticut.

He was born in 1885, and served a five years' apprenticeship with Messrs. A. Smith and Company, of London.
