GEORGE HERBERT HUMM spent most of his professional career in the United States, where for twenty-seven years he held the position of plant engineer to one of the Singer Manufacturing Company's factories at Bridgeport, Connecticut.
He was born in 1885, and served a five years' apprenticeship with Messrs. A. Smith and Company, of London. After a year's experience as foreman to an engineering firm he was engaged as engineer to a syndicate interested in the development of certain patents. From 1908 to 1913 he was employed in the drawing offices of various firms in the Midlands, including the Brush Electrical Engineering Company, Ltd.
He then went to Canada and found employment with the Canadian Explosives Company, Ltd., for two years. In 1918 he began his long association with the Singer Manufacturing Company, which continued until his death on 25th December 1945.
