THOMAS JACKSON was the founder and chairman of Messrs. Jackson Brother, Ltd., drawing material manufacturers, of Leeds, and had been head of the firm for no less than fifty-three years.
He was born in 1863, and, after serving his apprenticeship with a firm of engineers, joined the staff of the civil and engineering department of the Yorkshire College (now Leeds University). For many years he was instructor in mechanical engineering at the Holbeck Institute, Leeds, and was the author of a work entitled "Slide Rules and How to Use Them".
