Prof. D. C. Johnson, MA (Fellow) died recently at the age of 53.
Prof. Johnson was a graduate of King's College, Cambridge. He returned to Cambridge in 1947 as lecturer in the Dept of Vibration Theory for Engineering Use.
He was appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds in 1955, where he did research work on toothed gearing and on the mechanical behaviour of textile spindles. Seven years later he returned to Cambridge as Professor of Mechanics and set up research work on a number of aspects of damping machinery.
